Press Release: Henning, Tennessee, Thursday, January 1, 2015
The Legacy of Alex Haley Now And Forever • As a result of expanding our site to encompass 54 individual articles on our Articles Page, 38 combined text interviews on our Text Interviews page, 26 individual forewords by Alex Haley in both text and audio narration format on our Forewords page and his 28 Forewords for the Stories of America series, the ultimate challenge has indeed presented itself.
Within the Special Collections Department of the University of Tennessee in Knoxville resides the collection of Alex Haley's personal works. And within that special collection is the unfinished biography of Alex Haley by Anne Romaine. Therefore, the ultimate task and responsibility is at hand to finish that biography in the manner it was meant to be done and then some.
Open Library Logo The first major completed task in bringing us closer to confronting this was organizing all of Alex Haley's authored and contributed works at the Open Library. Here you will observe that not only crisp and clear images were uploaded for each book, but how they all contain personally written overviews for each work.
Therefore, our Alex Haley Biography page will be receiving its long overdue update. In addition, it is with great honor to officially design and supply content for The Alex Haley Roots Foundation website and have it fully operational to serve everyone better. :-)
Stories of America
Alex Haley was general editor of the 28 books in the Stories of America series. The education of children was a cause to which he was firmly and enthusiastically committed. This series represents part of Alex Haley's legacy to the children of America, where he stated, “So read Stories of America and listen to the music of your history and witness the sights, sounds, smells, and life of your past.”
The stories in the Stories of America series are grouped into thematic collections titled: Holidays, Working Together, Against All Odds, Stand Up and Be Counted, and Personal Challenge. You can view the entire Stories of America series with Introductions by Alex Haley.

Best Website ReviewsBest Author Tribute Websites • "The mission of this website is to 'spread Alex Haley’s vision for all to know their heritage.' They quote Alex Haley - 'In all of us there is a hunger, marrow-deep, to know our heritage—to know who we are and where we have come from. Without this enriching knowledge, there is a hollow yearning. No matter what our attainments in life, there is still a vacuum, an emptiness, and the most disquieting loneliness.'
"Alex Haley, author of Roots, was committed to making it possible for people to find out about their origins. This website aims to educate about Haley and to carry out his mission." ~ Douglas Adams, Very Best Sites.
